Hi everyone, I'm kinda new to the jeep family, had a totally stock cherokee, loved it till someone hit me, anyway just picked up a 89 yj and love it. Doing a few small things first before I go major i.e lift etc. If you guys don't mind have a few questions. Are all yj's shift on the fly? Also what is the gear pattern for 4wd? My bro told me ,it is a "z" pattern, I thought it was straight up middle and back, sorry to sound like a dummy, my first real jeep. Got it for a steal, and only got 64,000 orig. miles on it. It's only a 4 cyl. but runs like crazy, just started fixin it up,almost ready for the big toys. Thanks for your time, great club!!!!!!!!!! thanks,rich :-x [addsig]

Cool man welcome to the SWB jeep club! The transfer case shift pattern is like this:

4H|_
....N|
...4L|

and shift on the fly should be good up to about 35mph or so. 64K on the clock is pretty good for an 89. Sounds like you got a real gem...[addsig]
