i have a 92' cherokee 4.0 4x4, the problem is stalling. having read all previous post, i replaced the cpr, 80.00 later it still wont start. the stalling will occur under any condition, after a turn, going striaght at 40 mph, or while running at idle for 15 mins. i have to wait 2 days before it will start up again. when i retrieve the error code it shows 54. i am about to change the distributor. is this a sound move or a waste of money???i have already replaced the fuel pump, filter, cap and rotor, wires etc... I have 160000 miles on it and would like to get atleast another year. any suggestions out there. :?

well i changed the distributor and its been running for 35 mins. which is the longest its ran in 2 wks. well see though.

i dont remeber what the call out for 54 was, but something like distributor sensor blah blah blah. i let it run for an hour running the heater etc, then shut it down. it started right back up. it hasnt done that for too long ??????? hopefully that was it. we'll see. time to replace the shocks, brakes etc. my wife thinks im nuts putting 600.00 into it. i think im smart, no 390.00 new vehicle payment insurance raise etc... ill try and squeeze 2 more yrs out of her. as long as she gets my family and the boat to and from vacation, i think shell agree, i made the right move! over the river and through the woods...rock on jeep

I am not talking down here dude. Just asking questions cause when things like this happen we sometimes jump to fast and to hard. OK? When it will not start think basic OK. Do you have spark to the plugs? Do you have Fule delivery? If you have them two are you in Time? I know this is smple stuff but I am a simple man. Remeber Swing Blade! "It's out of gas, Uhhhh Hunnnn! Good Luck and you are right to try and keep it on the road rather than feed the Auto Maker Monsters with the over priced hard to work on marvels of moderen tech. Tug

understandable reply. being of cheap mind and sound body, i will always look for the easiest (least expensive) root and work my way up. eliminate the obvious and concider the oblique. it seem the distributor worked. now i need to find out why my seats dont work,,,, its not the fuse (obvious) lol
