New Axles!

I installed my new Superior one piece axles last night. The install went smooth. It would have been difficult if I had done it in my garage. My brother-in-law works at a drive line shop (driveshafts, CVs, and rear ends) and has all the cool tools/toys. We had to machine a bearing spacer down a little because we did not have enough shims. The part that would have been really hard would have been pressing the bearing and bearing keeper in. We used his press and the instructions made a special point about NOT using a hammer. I guess if you did this job at home, you would have to take them somewhere to have the bearings and keepers pressed in.

The result no popping, grinding, and clanking from the rear of my Jeep.

O2 sensor??

I need some altitude before I can add bigger meats. In all honesty, I'll probably never go any bigger than the 32s. I use my Jeep as a daily driver and drive it to hunt. Some places I hunt are as far away as 500 miles. Because of all that, I like to keep the drivabilaty as good as possible. Once I get 2 1/2" of lift and lockers on both ends it will go anywhere I need it to go.

I though getting a one piece axle was suppose to get rid of those silly spacers??

Aaaaauurgh aaaargh aaauuugh auugh!!!

I here that!!!!

I put in a Superior one piece a few years ago. I ruined a bearing, thought, before I decided to and have it pressed on for 10 bucks. I didn't have the spacing problems though.

A few weeks ago, I was watching Two Guys Garage, and they were re- doing a rear axle. One of the guest that day was some big time parts company owner, and he brought is wife's waffle maker. He put the bearing (un greased) into the waffle maker for 7-10 minutes, it headed up to 350 - 400 degrees, then he just dropped in down the shaft, and it worked - it seated without a tap or a press.

Hell, I wished I would have seen that earlier. My wife has 2 waffle makes I can ruin.
