I have a 2001 wrangler sport automatic...,was going down the road and all of a sudden jeep just went into neutral...no noises or problems before as it was doing fine....will not do anything now in any gear even putting in 4 wheel drive....had just driven 220 miles 2 days before with no problems...appreciate your opinions....thanks

Start simple things first -
check trans fluid - quantity, color, smell, no particles.
CODES - get codes, ideally a scan BUT key trick is a start.

Check your transmission oil color and level.
Also check your transfer case oil.
Just be sure the transfer case is not in N neutral.

Also check your linkages. If they are not connected your not shifting.

lol I have had it in all gears while running...it don't do anything

don't ASSUME no light means no codes.

you were driving when it 'neutraled' - were in 2wd.
when shifting T'case will 4WD light come on?
you are able to restart vehicle, CAREFULLY try restarting in D.
confirm a 32rh trans for a detailed troublshoot

linkage is ok...how do you check transfer case for neutral?

There is a neutral position on he transfer case. Some goes 2WD, then 4 high, neutral then 4 Low. There are different patterns based on the model case.

If your linkage is ok and not bent you should be in 2H. Or 4H when it's fully forward.
On the transmission there is plastic part that breaks that keeps the transmission from changing gears.
