I have an 87 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, and I just got the fuel pump replaced and have driven it several times. All of the sudden when I go out to start it it will Crank but won't fire at all. I can hear the fuel pump come on when I turn the Key but it seems like its not getting any fuel and it just cranks. I need to know what it might be and what I could to do try and fix this problem ASAP!!!!

Thanks![addsig]

Harryhood,, I'm not up on the Jeep as I am Ford or GM. If you just had it replaced and its one of the ones in the tank it could be as simple as the little hose poped off the pump. The question is are you getting proper fuel pressure at the engine. Some GM TBI setups had to have 14 lbs to purge the vapor from the fuel system, 13.5 wouldn't cut it. If you have a test port on the fuel rail (tire valve looking thing) push the valve core in to see if you have some pressure (be careful) while the pump is running. Keep us posted..[addsig]

alright well I just went out and I read somewhere on another site that someone had the same problem and they tapped the gas a wee bit to start it, well I went out just now and tapped the gas and after 5 cranks which is normal for my jeep it started right up, WHat do you think it might be?? I think its weird because I thought with fuel injection you didn't have to touch the gas at all?? I am confused!! Replies!

Thanks![addsig]

On some TBI systems it sets the throttle plate. I'll have to get my Jeep manual out and start studying I quess. I have 2 ASE Master Tech certifications in medium/heavy duty truck and all my fleet experiance has been with mainly heavy truck and always had GM and Ford cars. I just bought my first Jeep/Chrysler last year.[addsig]

Well I thought you didn't have to set the choke on Fuel Injected but then again I don't know much about cars. It was just weird how it happened like it did. Maybe you do have to touch the gas a little to set the choke. I just got the injector rings replaced about a week ago and the did a tune up on everything on it. But I guess I will see what happens in the morning and keep you posted! Thanks again for everything and keep the replys coming!

Peace[addsig]

Which engine are we talking about? The 4-cylinder TBI or the 6-cylinder MPI? Might test the Throttle Position Sensor since it's position is directly changed by moveing the accelerator pedal.
