MPG any thoughts?

Thanks! One last question, can you get codes even if there is no check engine light on or will there only be codes if you have that notice?

I think so. You could cycle the key on and off 3 times leaving it on and watch the odometer for the codes if any. Press the trip button to get the next if there are mutiples. After all it will read DONE.

Remember if you have disconnected the battery while you were looking around this will reset any codes. It doesn't fix anything but it will clear them.

How did the new plugs work.

i took this whole thread as an idea to find information.here is what i have discovered so far.my 2003 wrangler sport with 4.0 and o/d automatic(gearing unknown),still have the o.e.m. 30" gsa tires.i noticed when i bought this Jeep that m.p.g. wasn't great, but i never thought it would be!i drive 90% of the time on the highway,at 70-80 m.p.h.i was averaging around 238 or so miles to a tank full of gas(not good).but this thread peaked my interest.i joined up with fuelly.com,and began tracking my usage.i also started using lucas fuel injection cleaner/fuel additive, after hearing recommendation.don't get me wrong,i am not selling snake oil,but check this out!after three tanks of fuel,no changes in driving habits(i have a VERY heavy foot!)-i went 270 miles on a tank of fuel, approximately 30 miles further on a tank of gas!at 9.99 for a huge bottle at walmart,i figure it is money well spent!and get this-i am getting 17.9 m.p.g. while driving the same, according to fuelly.com!just wanted to share this,i recommend highly to all fellow jeepers!

interesting goldtj! I will check that stuff out. I havnt checked for codes yet but I will be doing that today. I dont know if its psychological or not but it really seems like I am getting more power now that I changed out those plugs. Of course I also cleaned the air filter and put in the injector cleaner. I do NOT hear the spark knock anymore at all! I am tracking the fuel like suggested online and I will let you know how it goes. I havnt done a whole lot of driving so its taking a while to get through the tank right now.... I will update you all as soon as I have some info to share.... I am anxious to see if there is any change.

well,i ran like 3 tanks through before i saw improvement, and can't see why you wouldn't get even better m.p.g. than i,because when i drive,i fly!

noticed a little improvement after the new plugs and also using some of the fuel additive mentioned above. Not anything to write home about but some. Its my only complaint with the Jeep. Wish they could make one that was more efficient. I mean I know its a big heavy square box being pushed along....

I have had pinging problems with my 05 for quite a while. I really think these stock plugs stick too far into the fire and retain a glow under certain conditions. I tried a set of "stubby" Bosch four prong plugs which ran pretty well but I don't like the gap on them (too big and can not be adjusted- hope it won't damage the coils) . I made a post about pinging a while back. If my Jeep has a ping sensor (NOT called out in the manual) it doesn't work. It should not allow constant ping. I have to back off on the gas to control the ping. Oh, BTW... I get 15-20 MPG depending on roads... Best of luck - John

The problem with the additives is that while you might be improving you mileage slightly you are not saving any money. Let's do the math, shall we? 30 miles further per tank at 17.9 mpg = 1.68 gallons x $2.50 per gallon = $4.20 saved by spending $10. Not money well spent if you ask me.
