Hey my 1981 cj7s radio doesnt work. Does anyone know what type i can replace with? Thanks for helping

Any! you will probably have to cut the dash to fit it though. The one in it now just has a small cut out for the radio body and two small holes for the volume and tuning knobs if I remember correctly.
I doubt you will find a radio like that now-a-days. I know my brother get some truck parts catalog(like JCwhitney, or something like that) that has a lot of old truck parts in it, and parts for hot rodding them and it has the old vintage radios like the one in your jeep but they are WAYYYY expensive. I have a newer kenwood unit I just got about a month ago and mounted it under my dash for now, until I find a permenant place for it.

I agree with 69jeepCj. Another thought is to retain the broken radio on the dash that's exposed to everything including thieves. Get a marine type enclosure for the new radio and mount it in the glovebox so it's not visible for anyone to have the inclination of stealing what you worked hard for. Just my 2 cents.

But if you want to replace it in the original location you could get this.

Ok thanks guys. Il just go take alook over at walmart for about the same size

I've got a sony with detachable face plate. When I go in a store I just hit the button and the front comes off, put it in my pocket. I've got a couple of speakers mounted in a DeWalt sawzall box in between the seats, if they get gone I'll upgrade.

There are two routes - buy the radio that SouthTJ suggested (this has two tuning knobs, and should be a direct drop in), or get out your sawzall and cut a larger hole in your dash to mount a modern single din radio, then anything you buy at walmart will fit.

The deciding factor is really just your willingness to cut up the dash.

guess what I just dug out of my closet? a brand new Pioneer unit.. and I mean brand new, old in the sense its been there a while, but brand new, only time its been out of the box was tonight to take these pictures..
