So, I've posted about fighting in the past, about MMA (mixed martial arts), PrideFC as well as UFC.

It's been a long time in coming, but I'm getting back into it...literally. I've been training some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Messin' around in a local gym with some guys around here. But I'm gonna go full bore with it, and will actually start getting serious.

My plan is to do a Pancrase style tournament sometime this year. There's one before the summer that I hope to get into. I'll be competing at 169 (I'm walking around at about 180) I just hope I don't get knocked out! I've never been knocked out in the 10 amateur fights I've ever been in, and it's been about 5 years since I've taken a punch to the face with a MMA glove. So, the ol' chin might be a little glassy.

They're only 4 oz. gloves, so there's not padding on those bad boys. They hurt!

Are any of you familiar, or train? And if so, do you train in CO? Would you like a partner?

Send video please.
Oh yeah...you gotta have a nickname too. Something like "the Surrey Surprise" with some pink and white striped shorts. That would rule!

How about Mingez the Mangler?

Seriously though, better you than me. I don't mind watching an occasional fight but I've never had the slightest desire to step into the ring.

We'll be rooting for you though.

Good for you, Mingez!! I love watching the MMA stuff you mentioned. Although, all I get to see here is UFC, and it's a wussed-down version of the original. I got hooked on Royce Gracie back in '94 and '95 when I was a paramedic student. My mentor I was running calls with brought in the tapes of the first few years of UFC and we watched them at the station. I hate the new UFC. The original had no "5 minute rounds" and no rules. Two men enter, one man leave. You fight till you can fight no more or are knocked out or submitted. Royce Gracie was the king, and in my opinion will always be the king.

I wish you luck, Ian. Like someone else said, better you than me!!8)

Although watchiing that sort of stuff is fun, getting hit in the face is not the sort of thing I wish to do on my free time.
I like my fights with 42 inches of steel between me and my intended victum. With a three-way fencing mask to protect my impectativly good looks ;)
Yes I fence for fun and stress relief, nothing like poking/slashing someone with 42 inches of steel to relieve those daily stress'es of driving on the free-way,work, and marrage.
So as some one else who shares in the thrill of battle....good luck, and kick some non-jeeper butt!

I have been thinking about getting into Duels. Not much Dueling going on these days. I bet it would be a hit for reality TV. Probably air it right after Cops. "Celebrity Duel featuring Rosie O'Donnel and Donald Trump tonight on Fox." Awesome.

Yeah the old UFC's were fun, but the talent level wasn't as good. Royce was awesome! But the competition was a lot more WWF and Side-show than it is now.

I love the evolution of the sport, I just wish they'd get rid of the ring in the UFC. It allows the guys with less skill to make a fight interesting.

BTW, Mirko Cro Cop, the #2 Heavy Weight in the world (And probably one of the top 3 fighters in the world period) 2nd only to Fedor (The toughest man on the planet) has just been signed to the UFC and is no longer with PrideFC! This bodes badly for all of the heavyweights in the UFC, because he's instantly the best fighter in that league.

Here's a vid of him: (warning, song in background has explicit lyrics)

There's gonna be a lot of dented craniums in the UFC heavyweight division. I almost feel sorry for them.

I'd pay for that on Pay Per View! :D
