Got some more brilliant criminal news.... A guy went into a community under construction and stole washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves and had been stealing for about a month. One night this spring he went into the community and backed up to a house. Not realizing he had sunk his van in the mud up to the axles. He fled the area when daylight came and he was still stuck. Now keep in mind the van is his. We impounded the car and notified the tow company that the vehicle could not be picked up until the owner met with us and we would contact the tow driver. Apparently he had been hiding in the woods and saw us and the tow truck company remove his vehicle. He tries to call the tow company to get his van, and they tell him he has to contact us. HE calls back and tries to say he is officer so and so and we could release the van to the owner. Another note..... the owner has to come to the impound lot with a signed police department release form, not just a verbal thing an the tow yard still has to call and confirm with us. The tow driver tells him to come to the yard to meet with him then calls us to meet at the same time. Needless to say the owner never showed up. He was picked up in Delaware for doing the same thing. We got to serve the warrant and bring him back after his Delaware court date. He confessed and admitted to doing this all over town, which we figured, since it was the same MO in every community that had thefts. We estimated the cost of the construction company for property to be about $500,000. The thief said he made about $1000 and he spent it all on crack. Sad. HEs gonna spend a ton of time in jail for $1000 in crack or about 50 pieces of crack. Not including any crack he was sold that was fake which around here is 50/50. I'm sure someday he will be up for the darwin award.
