low beams

[98 Jeep]

Only the high beams work on my JGC, which poses a problem if I use the vehicle at night. I bought a replacement switch but I've been reading where I might also need a multifunction switch. What is it and is all this hard to replace?

I'm getting to the point where I am almost sorry I bought this Jeep. I really like it but it is nickel & dimming me to death. I had the coolant censor replaced but it still beeps on the dash, now I have a message something about the rear lights. I'm soon going to sell the thing. I just don't have the money to keep fixing all these little things that keep popping up.:x

Yes - it Can be frustrating when these little tHings keep popping up all the time! But, the. OTHER way to look at it - - Is at Least it is NOT something MAJOR! (Eng. Or Trans). Right?? Anyway, on to the matter at hand: Your HI-Beams work, But the Low Beams dON'T! Right? I Suspect you may be correct in your Belief about that darn: Mutifunction Switch! I think YOU may need a NEW MULTI-FUNCTION Switch-- This switch - on the Left (I think) of your steering Column -- allows you to switch BETWEEN : Low Beams and High beams! You need to have this Switch CHECKED OUT-- and possibly REPLACED. I dont think it is a. HUGE JOB - - any Competent Mechanic can do. This JOB! DEALER Might be Pricey! Good Luck! Keep us Posted! JB

OK, thanks for the reply, I think I'm going to take it in next week sometime and get it all checked out. Hopefully the bill won't be too bad.

Sounds like the multi-function switch. It is your turn signal, hi/lo beam switch, and wiper switch. Take the covers off the steering column, and you may need a tamper proof torx bit to get the switch off, but not sure about that.
