Looking to buy a new jeep

I am looking at this wrangler and the guy who is selling it states that its got a high perf exhaust, jet chip, 486 gears and the speedo is accurate with the 33" tires. Gets around 15 mpg driving 55-60mph.

Now I have a few questions:

Jet chip I think that you have to put higher octane fuel with the chip. Also need an intake and a thermostat change??

What are 486 gears?

Does 15mpg sound right on 33” tires and its 4 banger?

um, i've heard of 456 gears but not 486... this number is the gear ratio 1:4.56, the number of turns of the driveshaft:number of turns of the axleshaft (i think)

never heard of a "jet chip" and i've ESPECIALLY never heard of a thermostat change involved with a chip.

A jet chip is just a computer performance chip, and I'm not sure if you have to run a higher octane or not. Personally, I'd take the chip off asap, they tend to cause more problems than good. Changing the thermostat isnt hard, neither is the intake. 4.86 gears, most of the time gear sets go 4.10, 4.56 or 4.88. Those are common numbers for the gear ratios for Dana axles and aftermarket gear sets. Not to say he might not have 4.86's.

You wont need higher octane fuel to run that chip. Chips in jeeps dont really do much to begin with.

Oh, I beg to differ!! I was eating chips in my Jeep last weekend and totally made a mess of the carpet and the center console! Not to mention the grease spots on the steering wheel and mirror (from when I was admiring myself).
