my lock cylinder just pulls out of the collum now. i can put it back in to start it. but if i let it sit for awhile it kills the battery. when i shut it off i make sure the tack goes to 0, but it still must be putting power out. the blower fan shuts of to. it is a 79 cj5 nontilt.

If you twist the ignition key counter clockwise all the way, it will keep the accesory power on. From the full counterclockwise position is the accesory, next to the clockwise direction is off, then run and then start. the ignition tumbler set is fairly cheap on those since it's an old GM column.

Just a quick note... If I recall, on those setups, your actual switch is mounted to the side of the column under the dash. A little metal rod goes from the lock down to the switch. Make sure the switch is not loose on the column or the indexing to the lock will be misaligned. It's not too hard to change the lock and for some reason they seem to wear out fast ("pot" metal). Best of luck - John
