New project 76' CJ-5, I-6. Motor was locked up. Got it freed up. In the process of cleaning all of the fuel lines and making sure the electrical is safe. The previous owner put the plug wires on like it was a 72'-74' model. Very few real rust issues. Just bought a compressor, sand blaster, and some paint guns. This will be my first attempt for a do-it-all restoration. Any words of wisdom?

Make sure you don't use sand to clean the paint and rust.. Also save yourself a ton of headaches and just replace your fuel tank, it's cheap insurance..

Figured I'd use the blaster for smaller parts and maybe the tailgate, hood, bumpers, and roll bar. Just wondering but why not use sand on the body other than it gets everywhere?

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like a pretty good jeep to start with (Smith) I wish mine had a full cage.. someday. An I6 with dual exhaust? Is that common?

It's not very practical. I'm going to take that out and run the exhaust out the back. I've considered using the media blaster to take off most of the paint only because there are 3 levels of paint on three. The green you see, baby blue, and the original maroon-ish color.

The blaster is a great idea, just don't use sand on the sheet metal, use something like garnet or walnut hulls...sand is very harsh on the thin metal and can also create heat and cause warpage..

I was thinkin someone told me if you sand blasted sheetmetal you had to wash it with something afterward or you'd have paint adheashion problems.

Do you have the 4th slot mag for that Jeep? Those are very cool and hard to find anymore, especially in that width and backspacing.

my '84 cJ-7 in process of restoration.. also my older '78 CJ-5 and my '75 CJ-5 Levi..
