Hello, this is my first post so I hope I'm doing this right.
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee (bought it in 2002) and last week whenever I tried to start it, it would start and then shut off after 2 seconds, did not know what was wrong, never had this problem before. I checked everything I could but nothing helped. Three hours later the problem "went away" by itself so I was able to turn it on without any problem.
Today the problem came back, this time I searched through google and came to the conclusion that the problem may have something to do with the key security system; I noticed that a "key light" on the dash was on. I called a mechanic to get some info and he tells me the whole module/computer needs to be replaced and a new key needs to be configured, total price: $450. But what if it only needs to be reconfigured or needs a new key?
I noticed that the "key light" is solid, not blinking, what does that mean? What if it was blinking?
Basically I have three options:
1. The pin/code was erased and just needs to be reconfigured: $80
2. The key is bad and needs a new one: $140
3. The whole security key module is bad and needs to be replaced: $450
Just need to know which one based on whatever a solid key light means. Knowing for sure could save a lot of money.
Please help!!!
Thank You.
PS: about a month ago a replaced the battery.
