Jeep wrangler topless in the rain

That's a great story, man. I wish I was less paranoid and was comfortable doing that. When I was younger I would do it in a heartbeat but now, a day of turning wrenches and I can't bend my wrists anymore.

Summers in Colorado can bring some quick afternoon storms and I've been caught in a few. I have both hard/soft and during the summer I never take the soft fully off....just for this very reason. I can quickly pull over and throw the top up if it starts to rain. Though with no windows and the doors off, it can still get pretty wet at times. The dog and I had to wait out a huge hail storm a couple years ago and I thought they were going to break the windshield and tear throught the top!

The looks from other drivers are priceless! I always think to myself "they must be thinking I'm an idiot." But I'm thinking "THIS IS GREAT!!!!" Now that I'm registered, I'll try and get some pics the next time I'm "Caught In The Storm" lol

PEACE!!!

As I stated earlier in this thread, I usually leave my doors and windows off but the top up or bikini top on. Keeps the sun off my head. On days that it looks like rain I have some huge trash bags (55 gallon maybe) that I put over the seat back and it stretches perfectly over the bottom of the seat to keep it dry. That way I don't have a wet butt when I get to where I'm going.

I have those neoprene seat covers on front and back so if it ever rains on them it's not a big deal they weren't cheap tho

a few years back i drove 30 miles in a heavy down pour with a 77 cj and a glass tub ! it poured thundered and the greatest lightning show ever ! when i got to town i hit a huge puddle of water that was flooding the road and a wall of water went straight up ..hung for a moment and then crashed down on my head. it was the best ride ever and after i drilled holes to let the 3 or 4 inches of water out of the tub there was no lasting effects :) ( i NEVER run carpet in my jeeps !)
when i lived in az we used to get flash floods all the time thats when it was time to go play. I had a 81 cj5 back then and had it in a river tryin to cross to get the falls on the other side i had water up to my waist and that old jeep never stopped now mind you i had 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires the next day i went to work my jeep never faild all electronics on dash worked and they were not sealed but az is very dry so didnt take long to dry out

Occasionally wax the inside of the windshield. Keeps the water beaded and moving. Increases visibility when you get caught in the rain.
I got caught once with my children in the back and top off the jeep in a rain storm. It was one of those flash summer storms and you could smell the rain coming. We were on the highway and I couldn't imagin how bad it would sting to get smacked by a few of those drops as a child. Well I drove like crazy and told the kids to keep their heads down while I tried to find cover. Big drops smattered against the windshield as I pulled off into a bank's unopen drive through lane. When I stopped they asked what happened and why we had stopped. I told them about the rain and getting wet. They thought it would be fun to drive the rest of the way home in the rain with the top off. So when the rain slowed up, we did. Little drops and big grins.

My hard top is on Nov-March. When the soft top goes on, it is down as much as possible. I have neoprene seat covers. [Wet Okole. Love em. Recommend them to everyone. Had them since '08. Tore a hole in a panel once, they replaced panel for $15 plus round trip shipping (if it fits, it ships USPS $13 one way). This is a lifetime offer.] So I'm not concerned about seats being wet or muddy; easy to clean. I've been in a down pour. Inside and outside of windshield are RainX coated. I take the carpet up, pull the drains and let him dry. Never had a prob. If something ever shorts, I'll cross that bridge. Always love new projects and it'd give me an excuse to buy more new stuff.

1994 YJ..... haven't had the doors and the soft top on for about 8 years now (they are tucked away in storage). Maybe the bikini top once in a while. I am pretty anal about keeping it clean so I wash mine quite a bit. Inside and out. Took out the drain plugs and made new ones out of aluminum that screw and unscrew so I can take them out to drain the tub. NEVER had any issues because the inside got wet. I mean I don't pressure wash the dash and gauges but I get them wet with the garden hose. My daughter's TJ is different because cloth seats and a dashboard that I don't think I will recommend soaking it. After all it is a Jeep thing, wind in your face, bugs in your teeth, get soaked sometimes, cold in the winter..... That is why I carry weather gear with me all the time. Rain suit, dry clothes in oversize ziploc bags dry shoes. It is a car, it is a life style, it is a Jeep.

8 years. Sweet. That's hard core dedication. *tip of the hat* I've had enough of this sand in AZ and looking for my next hospital to travel. You are making FL seem appealing

I work in Scottsdale quite a bit and love it. Spent some time in Sedona while traveling. AZ is a great looking state and we considered moving there but it gets too cold for us in the winter.... I am so spoiled with our very mild winters.
