Jeep won't start

Well I've finally gotten around to finishing up my project 85 cj7, and am havig some problems with the ignition. I've replaced the ignition switch, and the ignition key tumbler thing, and have everything wired up in what looks like the correct way.

However...
when you turn the key to on, the engine is quiet. Turn it to the middle, and you can see the voltage, etc, and if you turn it off the engine tries to start.

My question is, what do you guys think I've hooked up backwards?

Hey terry it sounds like there is something backwards with the wires i would try to trace the wires back as far as i can. it may be somewhere under the hood. I'am going ask around if i find out i write back. Good Luck Terry.[addsig]

It sounds like the ignition switch is operating exactly backwards. Is there any way possible that it or the connector were put on in reverse? If I'm not mistaken, when you turn the "key" it is really pushing a rod that in turn slides your "switch" to the different positions(off, run, start, access). When the switch is installed the sliding part has to be in a certain position when the rod is connected and the key has to be turned to a certain position at the same time. This way the moving key and the moving switch are in sync. Hope this might help.
BTW, I have gotten a bad ignition switch once for a GMC van. Take nothing for granted.

I agree about the iginition switch, but I really can't see another way to install it. I had to convince it to fit as is. I don't think the wires are too mixed up, since I really didn't cut any wires, just unpluged harnesses.[addsig]

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how the steering colum should look? I'll photograph mine tonight and post it here.[addsig]
