does any one know about the jeep grand cherokee V8's? how are they and do they make good swaps into TJ's? i was going to put a chevy motor into my TJ but i want to keep my jeep all jeep and not a big mix of parts and also the wireing between a grand cherokee shouldnt b that different from a TJ so that would b a little easier to do.. thanks all

They are a decent V8 but are a real pain in the butt to swap into a TJ, it would be easier to swap in a 350 and put a jeep air cleaner on it

what would be the hardest part of swaping a jeep v8 into a tj? i figured that all the wireing and stuff for a 350 would have been a night mare no one makes a harness for it yet and i hate doing electrical.

If you want to go carburated the wiring is pretty simple, if you want to go with fuel injection http://www.howell-efi.com/wiring_kits_index.html has good wiring kits for the swap. http://www.advanceadapters.com/ has things like the engine mounts and mods for on down the drive line. I'm not sure how compatable the chev would be with the TJ's transmission though. I've been told that the dodge trucks 5.2 and 5.9 are an easy swap, but i've never personally seen it done.

i would be willing to bet more 350s have been swapped into TJs than the GCs 4.7 has

Hi

You're bound to run into doing so rewiring no matter what engine you put in there. I've learned to never assume any two Jeeps use the same type/size of fuses/wiring/breakers/plugs/etc...

I haven't heard too many good things about that Jeep V8. I've heard they're kind of unreliable and hard to get parts for. If it were me, I'd go for the 350. Chances are you're going to run into just as many wiring difficulties either way, and being that the 350 swap is much more common, there should be plenty of resources at your disposal.

thanks everyone now im just in a delima of which to go with the chevy 350 or the jeep 5.2 i can get the jeep for 800 bucks and thats the complets car minus the doors and interior still kinda running or a running 350 for 800 bucks
i was thinkin that if i got the jeep i can just swap the entire drive train and use the gauge cluster off the GC and what ever other parts that i need i was guessing i could modify to fit into me TJ

You'll want to get the transmission and transfer case with the engine whenever possible. This will keep the cost down on adapters to mate the engine to your drivetrain, and the v8 drivetrain will undoubtedly be stronger.

well i was thinkin that the drive train from a gc would bolt under a TJ with minor modifications
