Jeep Transmissions?

Hi, I am new to the jeep scene and was wondering how the jeep transmission that enables you to switch from RWD to 4WD works. What enables the power to only go to the rear wheels when in RWD. Thanks.

It's not done in the transmission, the power splitting is in the transfer case attached to the back of the transmission.
