Jeep got broken into...again

Well, it turns out that sometime over the weekend a guy broke into over half of the cars on my street - pretty much the same thing that happened back in 08. He managed to make off with my leatherman, a flashlight, my cheap sunglasses, and worst of all, the faceplate from my stereo. I've got a $500 deductible, so insurance won't really be a big help.

The worst part of it is that I had a working alarm, I just had gotten out of the habit of arming it when at home. I guess I've learned my lesson there.

Just figured I'd vent alittle.

Sorry to hear about your jeep getting broke into, that SUCKS!!

Sorry Terry!
I sometimes wonder what goes through a persons head when they take things that dont belong to them...

Dang Terry, sorry to hear that. That alarm system thingy? , use e'm if you got e'm. It's a detterent but not a theft proof but at least it will make them think a little bit more.

I even got the super-bright led light for the alarm... I really gotta arm that thing.

I think that if I just had a led wired to flash when the ignition was off I would have been alright. None of the locked cars on the street had problems, just the 6 unlocked ones.

Sorry to hear that.Your alarm does not turn on by itself? My wife's car turns on automatically after the car sits with the ignition off for longer than 5 minutes. Also if you get a discount on the insurance for having it and they prove it was not used when broken into they may not cover anything.I run into that all the time with house and business alarms.Car alarms are harder to prove if they where on,unless the owner admits it was off.

I had always thought that it was better to leave the doors unlocked, since they would just cut the windows and steal my stuff anyway, but now after being robbed twice I'm starting to think otherwise.

The guy that robbed me seemed to be a real casual thief, only breaking into unlocked cars, so he probably would have passed over me. If he did cut my windows I'd be out the 250 deductible (same as I'm paying now for a new radio), but would have a new top to match my new radio...

Man that bites, especially with all the weather. :x It makes you want to break out some of these...

Sorry Terry, I HATE thieves. REAL BAD.
 that sucks big time.

I agree but without them I would not have a job..

I never lock my doors either for the same reasons, but I dont keep anything in there to be stolen.I remove my stereo face plate and anything is locked in the glove box or in the trunk,if you can call it that.

I hate to hear this again Terry, I absolutely HATE theives! I would like to catch someone tryin to break-in. I would beat them to within an inch of their lives.

It may be a little overkill, but you might look into getting one of those home security cameras and aim it towards your driveway. You can get a pretty good set-up pretty cheap. Just a thought.

Or just a dummy camera with a red light on top like my neighbor has.

Most real security camera dont have a red light anymore.

You can get a fairly decent outdoor with night vision for around $200.

Recorder is a different story depending on what type you wanted.

There are some cheaper ones on the market now that are wi-fi.I am not sure on the quality of them.

Tonight the thieves came back - to return my stuff

About 9pm the doorbell rang and it was two adults along with two very depressed looking kids. The woman said that she was a friend of their mom, and that the boys would like to return my stuff. They had at least 10 faceplates, a bunch of sunglasses and other stuff in a backpack, along with my favorite leatherman.

Frankly I was amazed at how young the kids were - I'd put them at 12 or 13. I wanted to go postal, but the teary eyed kids just looked to pitiful. Hopefully having to swallow their pride will make them think twice next time, but it does make me wonder why their mom wasn't out returning the stuff, instead of a friend of the family.

So, everything worked out in the end.

if ya wanna keep it dont leave it in the jeep. with a quick zip zip its gone gone

Wow!! how often does that happen in this day and age!?!?!. That's good to hear that you got your stuff back. Yep , i wouldn't leave anything valuable in the Jeep anymore if i were you Terry.

I wonder why someone takes just a faceplate what good is it with out the radio. I got into the habit of just leaving it in the jeep guess I'd better start taking it in. Glad it worked out for you.
