I'm not happy about it, but after much deliberation, brooding, thought, debate, fighting, arguing...all with myself mind you... I finally did it.

6 Pack is no longer mine. I shed a small tear as he was driven off by the young new owner.

The upside is, he (the owner) is a jeeper, in a local club, and he plans on taking care of it. SYE, additional lift, at least good ole 6'er is going to an owner that will use him as was intended. He'll be happily romping in the Colorado Mountains.

So, now I am scouring the local classifieds for a daily driver good on gas. I'd like a cheap Civic, or Toyota P/U with the 22-RE engine. Something reliable and great on gas.

Do you all have any suggestions?

Also, I was telling my buddy about the video someone (i think South) posted about the Toyota Hilux where they beat it to death, set it on fire, drowned it in the ocean, etc, and it survived. Anyone have the link to that?

Jeep liberty with 4 banger diseal :)

He said cheap:redface: 8) 8) 8) 8)

How about a 1989 Dodge Minivan with powder blue interior and some nice wood grain exterior?:D

yeah, that's gotta be tough.
maybe something like an old MR2? I had a Nissan pickup for a while - it was ugly, but just would not die. Toyotas are normallly pretty expensive

Mingez, did you sell it mainly due to gas prices?
I did not know you were considering selling it.

Well, at least you still own a Jeep! I know, 6 Pack was your first. I don't think anyone ever completely gets over selling their first Jeep. Sad thing is after this, it won't be as painful to part with one. I think the first one numbs you in a way.

For a commuter, I can't say enough about my TDI. It is truly the perfect commuter. There are lots of used Golfs and Jettas out there that get close to 50 mpg and seemingly run forever. That or a small 4 cyl 2WD pickup (pick any brand) is a good choice and can be useful other ways too.

Mingez, I so wish I knew your were selling it, because i love the XJ. It could have been a sister to mine. I'm sure it ill be missed.

Well, gas and the fact that having a non-street friendly DD in Denver is like boxing a brick wall. Some of the streets out here are crazy. I do a LOT of driving because all of my friends live in the burbs. It costs me 5 bucks just to go met a buddy for lunch. And I can't afford much of that as a student.

I am going to for a decent car, probably VW, Toy, Honda, or Mazda. If it could be sporty that might alleviate some of the pain, and hopefully with low mileage.

All left over money goes to Books for school, and maybe a new top for the TJ!!

I'm looking into those. Reliable and great on gas. 26 in the city and 33 on the hwy.

I've always like the Miatas as well.

Yeah, I'm lucky in that I still have my TJ.

Go with a TDI Golf or Jetta. You'll end up saving thousands $$$ in gas in the long run.
I've been scouring the listings for TDI's but the current gas situation have those being hot commodities, and thus a hard auto to find.

Thanks, i loved my XJ too. But it's going to a good owner. (Which i'm grateful for.) Hopefully my replacement vehicle will be fun as well.

Bummer, dude. Having owned a Toyota PU with the 22re engine, I can vouch for them. Even when mine was new (1985 4wd) and was running 31's, I still got 27mpg in it. The 2wd should get over 30, I'd think. It was running strong when I sold it with 275,000 miles. I also owned a '91 Civic for a while. It had 193,000 miles and got 42 mpg. Only reason I sold it was because 4th gear was going out. Now I wish I'd kept it and paid to have it fixed! It was a blast to drive, too!

Mingez,

I can't offer advice on what to purchase because i've only had a few cars in my life and only one jeep. No trucks, etc. I would look for anything that had "economy' anywhere in the description. lol I can understand why you sold the jeep though. Good Luck!8)

Yeah, my first 4x4 was a 1988 Toyota Pickup and that thing has well over 200,000 miles on it. Hence why i am intersted in possibly getting another. Great trucks. (I owned that thing in High School and NEVER changed the oil. I probably changed it like once per school year!) I beat that thing to death and didn't have one thing go wrong with it.

thanks lady!!!! Hey, what's the signature banner "Party at the end of the world" thing all about.

Mingez, that's my summer motto! lol No really, it's the name of Jimmy Buffet's tour this summer. Concert in two months! I have the week off and can't wait! I am taking another newbie this year. That always adds to the circus fun.

I saw you got a miata. Way to go man! I think my next car will be convertible too. My friend in Florida has a mustang and the conv. of having a push button top is unreal. I think that is a must have after yeard of wrangling with the jeep top (or just being wet more often than I wish). lol Good luck with it!
