Please let us know if there is anything we can do. You've got our prayers.

You tell Jim we are praying for a full and speedy recovery, and will be looking forward to a full report from him asap! I hope the coward that struck him is apprehended.

Jim has been a great friend to me here on Jeepz, and Sunshine and I will be praying for him daily for a full recovery, as well as praying for you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you or Jim. sparky-watts@prodigy.net .

Hey all its Jim. I am home and hurting pretty bad right now. I have no broekn bones, but a concusion and a lot of torn muscles, tendons, and ligaments in my right leg. They caught the witch that hit me. They found her car the next day and had her confession that evening. she said she didn't see me until i was on her hood, but had no explanation as to why she punched the gas so hard and turned towards me. I think she was durnk. She says she fled because she was scared but did not want to explain why she ditched her car on a dirt road 2 towns over. she tried to say that she intended on turning herself in, but she stated that she was going to do that after she picked up her car. Needless to say she said she freaked out when her car was gone, but she still didn't contact police until we contacted her first. She was just hoping we wouldn't find her. Shes screwed though. I am afraid this might be the end of my career with only 5 years in. Depending on how bad the muscle damage is i may have to medically retire and then i can't work in law enforecment again. .Don't know what i will do, but trying to keep positive. Thnak you for all your prayers. \ Sincerely and respectfully,
Jim Veals

Sorry to hear about your situation Jim. My wife's uncle got hit by a crazed girl while working road construction. Its a dangerous job to work around the road. The girl who hit him fled also. I can't believe that so many people leave the scene after injuring someone. Glad to hear your home and recovering.

That is just awful. I hope they throw the book at her. Couldn't imagine permanetly changing someone's life like that. I'd bet money that she was drunk.

I really hope you're able to recover fully from this. Keep a positive outlook, and let us know if we can help.

My money's on her being drunk, kinda why many accidents around here don't get reported by the owner until the next day, gotta sleep it off ;)

Make sure you stay in touch with the prosecutor so she isn't let off easy with a plea bargain.

That's freaking unreal, glad to hear that you're at least alive, if not completely well... Best wishes for a speedy recovery, hope you and your department can put the smackdown on the person that hit you...

Sorry to hear about the accident, but glad you are making a recovery.
Get all you can out of your Work Comp and short/long term disability. They were intended for things like this. If you have to retire from law enforcement, at least you will have a few checks coming to fall back on while you plot your next move.

I'm brand new to this site and just saw the posting by Jims' wife. I'm a Trooper here in WI and that post hit very close to home. We've had two Troopers hit and killed here during my 23 years with the state. On the positive side a Deputy in the county I work was hit by a drunk driver a few years ago and after a few surgeries he's back to work with no limitations, so keep a positive outlook. The human body can take a lot of punishment and there's A LOT to be said for positive thinking. Looking forward to chatting in the future.

Great to hear from you, Jim! I'll continue to pray for you and your family and your department. And, like Trooper said above, there really is a LOT to be said for positive thinking. Whatever you do, don't let it get you down. I had a friend in EMS that was hit by a drunk on the turnpike in the fog and lost his leg (traumatic amputation). I happened to be working the trauma unit in the ER that night when he was brought in. Despite the pain he was in, he was already talking about getting a prosthetic leg and getting back to work. (30 mg of Morphine hadn't touched the pain, but he was a big guy, too.) Six month after the accident, and after a lot of red tape that changed the rules, he was back at work as a paramedic. The department's rules said he couldn't work with that type of injury (considered a 40% full body impairment or something like that), so he challenged it and got them to amend it, stating that even with that type of injury, if he could pass the physical part of the entrance exam for medics and firefighters, he could go back to work. He barely passed....but he passed. All because of his positive attitude and the support of good friends. And believe me, Jim, you've got a lot of friends here on Jeepz that are willing to support you the best they can.

Hang tough, bud, it's not over till you say it's over!!

Jim it is heartbreaking to think this may end your career in law enforcement. Hopefully your leg will heal to the extent that this does not happen. You're continually in our prayers.

Keep us posted.

Harry

I have no idea how I missed this thread, but Jim, let me say that I'm happy you're doing better. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope you can continue with your career!

Good luck!

Jim, I am not big on ambulance chasers, but given the situation, I would sue the crap out of her. She deserves it for leaving the scene. I too think she was drunk. Make her pay. I hope she had insurance though. Take Care, and our wishes are with you. Take Care, KJ

Hey Jim,

Don't know ya but thak you for what you do. O ton O prayers are headed your way, got the church into it as well!! Godspeedy recovery!!

Best regards,

PJ
