I did it again...

I was never really comfortable in my Jetta. Like Currupt said in his "for sale" thread, it was just too nice. I've always been a pickup truck or Jeep guy. Well not always but that's what I am comfortable in anyhow.

That, the fact that I've felt wierd about it's origin and just as significantly the fact that the new laws for diesels removed the lubricating sulfur from the fuel (comprimising longevity), raising the price (Diesel is 2.80 here vs 2.25 for unleaded) and lowering fuel economy (about 4-5 mpg on mine).

Looking online at KBB pricing, I was surprised to see that the TDI's actually slightly increased in value. At least mine did at 18K mi. Probably because they won't be available for 2 years as they are being redesigned to meet standards.

Well trade in was a little lower ($1K under sticker) so I traded it in. What I have now isn't as good on gas, but I can drive it with a smile and I owe $4K less and my payment is $100 less a month.

I wanted something 4WD or AWD and to seat at least 4. My wife was on par until I brought this baby home. When she saw it she demanded I sell my YJ:

05 Unlimited in "Impact Orange":
3.73 gears, trac-lok (LS) Dana 44 Rear, 15x8 "Ravine" wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes, fog lights, f&r tow hooks, Cruise, 7 speakers w/ subwoofer & single CD, 6 speed manual transmission, and it has the same spring & gas shocks that come on a Rubicon.

Jeep "certified" warranty = 8 yr/80K mi powertrain warranty, 3 yr, 3 mo 39K mi bumper-bumper warranty (all from time of original purchase in '05)
22K mi and very clean. As part of the haggling process I had the dealer throw in a new set of 31" BFG A/T's (it's a DD).

So then my wife did something that confused me... she handed me a dollar :?

She said, here you go... the old Jeep is mine now and I'm keeping everything on it including the winch!

Man I love that woman!

A wise decision, no matter what the wife thinks!!!

Congrats, TC..............I'm envious!

how long to you start screwing stuff on her?:purple: :purple:

A while... a nice set of 2" springs and shocks wouldn't look bad with the 31's but I'm not dumb enough to mention that around the household just yet ;)

My wife is already referring to the YJ as "My Jeep" (meaning hers). That is going to take some getting used to:-|

no matter what the wife says, you have to hold strong brother. hehe haha hoho.

Well she blew up a bit. Even though we talked about it all previously, we just don't do things like buying a vehicle without the other one's full knowledge. Driving it home I was thinking "I'm a dead man, I'm a dead man". It just totally went against how our marraige works and was a pretty stupid thing to do on my part - especially with her being pregnant. For those of you who don't have kids you will learn that many women's emotions are intensified when their hormones are all out of whack from pregnancy. Well she went out to cool down and get a coffee from Dunkin' D. When she came back about 45 min later she was fine. I guess that's when she decided the best way to deal with it was to stake a claim on the YJ. I'm fine with that. I was thinking I might have to sell it as it would be tough to justify me owning 2 Jeeps. Now if it's hers then I might borrow it now and then ;)

Edit

It's going to take me a while to get used to those funny lookin' OlllllllO headlights and car springs but so far it's a nice Jeep

I'm thinking the side steps and bumper caps will be the first things I change (they're all coming off).

Congrats on the TJ, TC! We need to make a trip up to Paragon and break 'em in sometime!

Nice looking Unlimited! I just let my wife buy mine and then I give her the dollar.....about a million times over, but still only a dollar!

I like the side steps. The front bumper isn't too bad, but I never liked the rears. It's almost like they tried to make a step bumper out of it.

If the ends of the bumpers were just boxed in instead of those stupid plastic caps they'd both look better.

As for the side steps, I might leave 'em. I watche a guy crumble a set on a trail once and my first thought was to take 'em off. They make it easier for the little ones to climb in...

Okay, my first real issue with the TJ's/LJ's...

What was D.C. thinking when they changed the age-old door handles by putting them on backwards?!?!?! The ignition is on the right, so I carry the keys in my right hand. I open the door with my left. Works great on CJ's and YJ's but they made the handles on the 97 and newer open the other direction. Dumb idea but it is what it is and if that's the worst I can come up with so far then I guess so far so good 8)

Tell your wife I am willing to make her one heck of a deal on HER JEEP, I will give her a CRISP $100 Bill for it, thats like 10,000% markup over what she paid. :D Anyways Nice looking Jeep, was looking at getting and 05 rubi and letting my girl have the GC beast but situations changed, all for the better. It's a very nice Jeep congrats on the new addition to your family, and your upcoming addition.

There is an easy solution to that....take the doors off.

Sweet, love the color. Yeah, the first thing I did to mine was remove the front bumper end caps. I removed one of the rear caps but it looked worse so I put it back on. You have a pretty understanding wife.

Hahaha no deal there Howie!!!

Good point.

Well, the dashes with those airbags take some gettin' used to. 3 years with mine and I still don't like it.

commuting in I-83, where truckers often do 80 mph I don't mind those so much ;)

Awesome, TC!! And of course, you'd have to get red, my fav color! Trust me, Sunshine wasn't at all thrilled when I traded the Camry for the YJ, and we've had many discussions about it, but she's never complained when it's snowing and I have to drive her to work!! She finally accepted the fact that I'm still a kid at heart and have to have my toys!! I did tell her up front that I was going to get a Jeep and there wasn't anything she could do to stop me, so at least she knew it was coming. If I had just gotten it without telling her, I'd be single now.:(

I felt the same way about the Camry. I loved that car, it was a sweet ride, but it just wasn't "me".

Good lookin' Jeep, TC. 8)
