How to know engine size

I recently bought a 1979 CJ-7. The guy I bought it from replaced the original V6 with a V8. He said it was a rebuilt 1986 AMC 360 from a Wagoneer. I recently did a search and found out they did not make the 360 in 1986. How do I find out what engine I have?

It should be cast into the side of the block on an AMC engine. Get a good light and look up under the exaust manifolds I can't remember which side it's on. The numbers are cast pretty big though.
