How much lift...?

Hey guys. I've got an 89 YJ. I want to lift it. (who doesn't?) At what lift height will I have to convert to longer brake lines? What about longer drive shafts? Is there steering mods involved?

Currently, I have the 1.5" shackle lift on stock springs. I would like to add a 3.5" lift totally 5" overall. I know that I'll need to drop the transfer case and get a dropped pitman arm. But I'm not sure about the rest. Also I saw someone else's Jeep where they had removed the track bars on the axles. Is that to improve articulation? If I drive my Jeep 70% highway, 30% offroad, do I want to do that?

Thanks for any help offered.

I Think at 3 inchs of lift you should change the brake line hoses.

Same with the driveshafts.

And add a dropped pitman arm.

if you lift it higher I will assume you are getting bigger tires,So Axle gears will need to be replaced,so your motor does not blow up

Yeah, it's only 4. What about the steering shaft? does it have to be lengthened? I really only want to fit 32" on the Jeep, Not huge tires, but meaty ones, for sure. Maybe I should go with the 2.5" lift plus my 1.5" shackles for 4" total. Someone else also told me that with this much lift, the emergency brake cables don't reach... is that true? Thanks for your reply.

steering shaft,no unless you add a body lift then you might, but I am not 100% sure.

E-brake you might have to lengthen a couple inches, but again not 100% sure.

Lot of help I was now

Cool, thanks anyhow. The wife is trying to veto the lift for now,but the senate is going for a two-thirds vote to overthrow her idea. We'll see. Gotta get it lifted, just need to know how much, in addition to the lift kit is going to be involved, so I don't get in over my 'budget'. Know what I mean?
