What mechanical parts have to be inspected for assurance for long road trips, 2,400 miles (round trip) for instance, on a jeep "88" with under 120,000 miles on the engine?:drunk:

everything...start with belts, hoses and lights. Suspension and so on...When I drove from MA to LA that was 1500 one way. I had a 91 XJ with 200K on it. I changed all fluids, brakes were due anyways, did those. I brought an extra drive belt, and water. I had done the hubs a few months eailer so I knew them were good. Tie rods, ball joints the whole front end make sure it's tight, check your tires for nails and screws...Long trips in Jeeps are fun!

My '88 took me from St. Louis to Seattle and back, with no problems. 'course that was back in '91 and '92 when it was only 4 years old

And don't forget to cross your fingers!!!:purple: :purple: :purple:

Do what's been advised and enjoy!!! I won't hesitate to take my '03 (110,000+) ANYWHERE. It's always fun (especially with 2 dogs) except when the air went out and drove through Alabama/Mississippi/Louisiana in mid-July.:( :( At least I could take all the windows and doors off.

p0p Thank you guys... I know I'll enjoy the coming holiday trip in a Jeep -
" Life - Enjoy " is my Jeep's motto. I dont think it will be a bad idea to take a rabbits foot either, "dandoc". :drunk:

I moved from Orlando, FL to here in Vegas 10 yrs ago in my 91Sahara pulling a U-haul and i enjoyed it (wont do it again!!!! heheh!) - only suffered a bad thermostat - overheated on occasion ('course i had to move out here in the middle of june!!) so dont forget basic hand tools (a leatherman or the like is the best one!) and little things like duct tape (hose repairs), fix-a-flat, water, - I've done several rest-area repairs (both for myself and others) - cover the basics and you should be fine!
