I am new here and dont know my way around. I have a 96 Grand Cherokee Laredo about 178xxx miles. Having trans problems. When I first start it up and start driving it revs real high. I have found the situation corrects itsself faster if i give it some gas while turning. Have done some research and have found that it could be the selinois in the trans. Also there is a thumping noise under the hood from a black thing by the air filter box. Last but not least it sweals. replaced the pulleys and finally the belt, the belt took care of it for a few days then it started again. please help...thanks

Re: new here, need help

When is, (If at all), the last time your transmission was serviced . . . new filter, AT fluid, flushed etc.etc.?

Re: new here, need help

I have no Idea, I was trying to see If I needed to replace anything else while the pan was off.

Re: new here, need help

I would do the trans. service like Hi-Hood suggested. The fluid and metal particles found in the pan will tell you a lot on how much that trans was taken care of.. BTW, i'm moving this thread to the GC section so that hopefully we can get more responses from there.

thanks, any ideas about the noise by the air filter box?

Does this black thing making the noise have a vacuum connector and an electrical connector on one end? It makes a rhytmic popping noise?

yes, I think we are talking about the same thing. its pretty loud, I can hear it inside with the windows rolled up.

As for the belt squeeling it prob needs to be tightened alittle
As for trans change and flush trans and change out filter
As for that black box look out its gona blow (kidding) have no clue

If it is the solenoid i'm thinking about, it's the emissions solenoid(LDP) or the purge solenoid. It's normal for the ticking noise. Replacing it will only quiet it down for a while then it will do the same thing.
