I am gonna get a Jeep Wrangler and have about 10k to spend. Can you guys let me know what I need to look for in my ride.

No ideas are in stone, but right now Im thinking late 90's 4.0L. Also is 100,000 too many miles for this years Jeep? Any help would be greatly help.

There's lots of good Jeeps out there for under $10K. No, 100,000 miles is not too high, especially for the 4.0L. I'd buy one that has not been modified (abused) and has all the telltale signs of good maintenance. If you buy 91 or later it will be fuel injected.

The FI system was updated to MPI in '91 (almost certain) and I think they started putting the full cage (sport) roll bars in '92. Some of us jeepers have to deal with the dreaded TBI fuel injection which only appreared for a small time. Stay away from it, It makes it hard to upgrade. I had a '95 that performed way better than the '90 I have now. Miles don't matter that much, just depends on who had it.

in 2000, Jeep started using the NV3550 manual transmission, a definate upgrade from the previous Ax 5, AX 15, and BA 5/10 manuals in the earlier years. In '05 they went to a six speed manual, but I doubt you'll find an '05 under $10K ;)

If you're looking for an automatic, they went from a 3 speed auto to a 4 spd auto in '03. Again, price range may be a factor.

After visiting 3 dealerships I can tell you car dealers in VA are on crack. I am not gonna pay 12000 for 97 or 98.
But on the bright side there is a private supposed garage kept 99 Wrangler about three miles from me that Im gonna look at on Sat. He has it posted for 8500 and im gonna try to get it for about a grand less. Hopefully it is nice. It has the 4.0, mt, AC, factory suspension, stereo bar, and 100,000 on the odom. You guys think 7500 is resonable or should I hold out for a better deal else where? Again thanks to everyone sending help my way and hopfully I'll see you all soon on the trails.

autotrader is a good place to find cars in your area. just make sure you bring it to get inspected/checked out by your mechanic before buying, private or dealer sale. save yourself some headache, and just cover your a$$ on your inve$tment.

Actually, if it's clean, I'd say $8500 is a fair price for a '99 with the 4.0 and 100k miles.

Real cheap place if you are in KY TN or IN. Bought my 90 from a FSBO for 2,500 and have seen some cheaper.............
