So i have went back and forth with a 4x4 issue......thought it was a vacuum leak....installed a posi-lok! Still no 4x4......so i thought i needed to adjust the posi-lok and did just that........while on jack stands the front axle would engage everytime! So i took it for a test drive and it was a little iffy.....it would then it wouldnt? The front axle will engage when i do it on the fly because i can feel it......well sometimes but not even close to all the time! I have a shackle lift could this be the problem? I need some help guys! Thanks!

I don't think the shackel lift is the problem. My guess is if the posi-lock is operating correct, then you need to adjust your shift linkage at the T-case.

the front drive shaft will turn when engaged into 4lo and 4hi....could this still be the problem? Thanks!

It may not be "positively" engaging. It may be engaging, but not correctly or all the way. If the posi-lock is in fact engaging the shift motor then that can not be the problem.

When you purchased the Posi-Lock did you also purchase the case fork they sell? I had this same problem on my YJ, ended up that the factory fork had to much play in it. It would engage if there wasn't any stress on it (for example when it was on jack stands). But any time I drove it wouldn't engage no mater how much I adjusted the cable.

I ended up buying a new cast fork from Posi-Lock and it fixed the problem. Just an idea, doesn't hurt to upgrade that fork anyway.

Ding-Ding! If you haven't touched the shifter linkage on the T-case, then I'd say we have a winner.

Is there supposed to be play in the posi-lok cable when you pull it? It pulls all the way out everytime, but dont push in all the way all the time it has to be lined up in order to push it in seems like? I will try to adjust the shifter linkage...and upgrade my fork as well i guess? Its driving me crazy!!!!

If you haven't adjusted the T-case linkage yet>>>don't. There shouldn't be any reason for it to have changed, unless you did it. I would stick to the fork first, and see what happens.

Are you perhaps thinking that ,in four wheel drive, all the wheels turn at the same time. I had those thoughts, not realizeing ,I only had 2 wheel drive,{with out lockers installed}.

so what you are saying is that only two wheel should turn at one time? That would make since because i saw that my drivers front and passenger rear would spin together and passenger front and drivers rear would spin together.......? Is that the way it is supposed to be? If that is the case then it works pretty good but i think i still might have an adjustment problem? Makes me feel better though if that is the case.........but now it makes me want lockers!!!!!! lol!

If stock yes only 2 or 3 maybe 4 wheels will turn at the same time if you get lockers then all 4 wheels will turn at the same time every time.

Well that makes a lot of since and makes me feel a lot better about he problem.......I am going to make some more adjustments today and see how it goes.....a little fine tuning you might say! Thanks guys for all the advice.....it feels to know where to get good advice when you need it!!!!! I'm sure ill have more questions shortly??? haha! Thanks again!

With open diffs, only one front and one rear tire will spin when there's a loss of traction.

If you have any difficulty engaging the posi-lok, try turning the front wheels side to side in order to get the axleshafts to turn slightly so the splines line up, allowing the shift collar to engage.
