Like Corrupt said, it is not so difficult;
First, remove the cables for the spark plugs and coil. Then take the cap of the rotor (2 screws), and take the rotor out (simply pull it out). Push in the new rotor (there is a slot on the rotor so that it can only go in in one direction, the same that you took it out from). Screw on the new cap. Unscrew the old spark plugs; CHECK THEM for carbon, overheating, etc. Gap the new sparkplugs if needed (stock gapping is .35 if I remember correctly, but not sure 'cause I gap mine to .45). Put antiseize in the new plugs and put them on. Torque to spec (check manual for the number). Put boot protecting grease in the boots. Connect the new wires (check your manual for firing order; a 1 is marked on the cap for the first piston, and follow the order from there in the sequence stated in the manual).
That's pretty much it... In my 4-banger, it is a little more involved because I have to remove the AC compressor to get to the front 2 plugs, but it is still not that involved.
I understand what you mean about the manual; they sometimes are not too clear at all. This is why I have both the Chilton and Haynes, and I downloaded the Jeep Service Manual from another site, which is also a lot of help (except when each states a different toruqe setting, which DOES happen sometimes!).
