heater only works on high setting

Strange "clicking" noise

I have a 97 TJ 4.0. Manual shift. I noticed after a recent storm that when I put my heater on it only works on the highest setting. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Also sounds like something is bouncing around inside the heater motor. But recently has gone away. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Well after a trip to my local jeep dealership and $39.63 for the variable resistor. I have heat once again pull the old one out and was all rusted. Thanks again guys for you help!
