why are heders so expensive? does anyone know of a good CHEAP set of headers that i could buy. 1990 yj with a 258.....

thanks yall

Why cost so much, Beats me! As for my thoughts on headers I think I would just as soon have a stock manifold and run with out a cat or at least a hollowed out cat and a good free flowing muffler such as a Flowmaster or glaspac.
Reason being you need some back pressure in your exaust for the sake of the engin. The manifold will create that presure with the rest of the exaust flowing free. With a header you may not get enough back presure with a good flowing exaust system as discribed.
If you live where there is an emmisions inspection and need the cat and muffler a header may be a great thing. Now this is all coming from a Hillbilly so take it with a grain of salt but from all I have read and seen That is what I think.
Others here are more knowledgable than I so maybe you will be better informed soon. Good Luck tug

if i was to go with a header... i would try to get something tuned... otherwise, you are only going with a higher flow... if you go with a tuned set, they will follow the firing order, and each tube will be matched in length, this will help increase your low end torque... and if you do go with a header, don't go TOO wide, i would actually suggest going with the narrowest header tube that (whatever company you buy from) can supply...

what the deal is, is this thing seems like its not exhaleing enough. she is breathing deep enough but not sure if the air is getting out fast enough. it kinda seems like the carb is loaded too maybe. my cj with a 4cyl has more power. i already hollowed out the cat.

list of things to do....

1. nutter bypass
2.headers
3.if all else fails....rebuild motor

she needs attention but i want to start with the small things first

what do you have for a muffler? if you have TOO much flow, you will be hurting yourself
