all pulleys are good. squeels slightly on start up. and volts take a few seconds to catch up.. squeels louder and longer naturally with defroster on.. i want to tighten it up but am unsure how,, sounds like a tightness issue im thinking what do u think

Welcome to the Z. Tell us a little about your jeep, year, engine, model, etc.

Not knowing what Jeep model and engine you have, you should either have a Automatic tensioner or a Manual tensioner. IF you have an automatic tensioner, the only remedy is to replace it. i don't see the relation of the Defroster with the serpentine belt issue unless you do have a bearing problem with the Alternator, which you said you have already checked. The Manual tensioner could be tightened up by loosening the tensioner pulley bolt with a 14 or 15mm wrench then loosen the tensioner bolt that pulls the pulley tighter. Make your adjustments then re-tighten the pulley bolt.

01 xj 4.0 like i said it just squeels for a second and the volts dont catch up till its done squeeling.. a garage put a new belt on and it was fine for a week.. then it started making noise..i know how to tension it im just affraid of putting to much tension on it.. if ya know what i mean

sorry defroster/ air conditiong.. which kicks on the compressor and puts more strain on the system
