Trivia . . .
May 30, 1868 was the FIRST time Memorial Day was observed but was called "Decoration Day" It was started by a Civil War general named John Logan, commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. May 30th was chosen for TWO specific reasons; 1. because there were no major battles of the Civil War held on May 30. 2. Because it would be probable that flowers would be in bloom to adorn gravesites with flowers. It was held as a beginning to the healing process and reunification after the horrific Civil War.
