Guts of steel.

How do you guys have the guts of steel to climb a very steep hill. I tried but chickened out when i was just a quarter of a way up. About no more then 20 feet out of 300. Guess it just comes to you guys.

The longer that you offroad, The more confident you will become tackling tough obstacles and knowing what your rig will do. If it makes you nervous and you back out of a situation, It makes you smarter than some of us. Keep building your confidence at a pace that suits you and sooner or later you'll be climbing that hill.

Like the pics of my jeep on the dirt hills aren't high but the angle makes me nervous because I feel it's going to tip. I know what you are saying. My youngest son wants out when we get near step hills

After enough dirt roads and rocky trails you well be as twisted as the rest of us and hitting that hill full throttle while laughing histerically.

I know what you mean man, I went up a narrow trail in Colorado and it turned into a really steep incline surrounded by trees. I made my dad drive it back down for me.

The worst is when you tackle what feels like a very steep / dangerous hill, then look back at the photos later and it looks trivial...

You got that right, here's a photo of one that scared the mud outta me the first time I went up it,but after a couple of times, piece of cake. It dosent look like much in the photo. But upon approaching it on the trail{and we had no idea where we was going} I seen the trail disappearing into the tree tops and thought "oh god nooooooooo".Made my friend get out in case I rolled it. It was real scary that first time. It dosent look very steep in this photo, but it was enough to scare me.

For some reason cameras have a way of making any moderate trail look like a dirt road. Unless your rock crawling boulders then the pictures just don't represent the truth.

Experience makes all the difference. Know your vehicle. Know your self. Know the terrain. Start small and then work your way up.

Getting part way up a hill and getting hung up or stuck and having to back down can often result in disaster, such as a roll over. So think before starting up, and have a plan as to what you will do if you must stop part way up.

And I will add in, know about those around you. Don't follow someone up too close behind them and hopefully the person behind you will give you some space.

I wish I could find some of the pics from my 1st Jeep. My buddy and I tried to climb a 200 ft hill that was approximately 75 degrees steep. Made it with in 10 feet from the top where there was a slight cliff and couldn't make it past it. Backing down was the worst. I could feel the lack of weight in the front end as we coasted backward with the break peddle almost to the floor.
