Good and Fair Price for 88 Cherokee Ltd?

I'm about to make an offer on a 1988 Cherokee Ltd. They're asking $5000 OBO and blue book is $6700, but it feels ridiculous to pay that much money for a 14 year old car with 225,000 miles on it. I've never owned a Jeep before, but I need a good deal and I like this car.

I want to make an offer of $3800 cash. They say they put a new engine in at 190,000. It needs brake work and a few little things like a blinker light cover. The interior is in good condition, the paint is in good to fair condition . . . it's red with the premiums gold wheels and four new Firestone tires definitely not from the recall batch.

Is $3800 a fair deal for both of us on a 14 year old Jeep with 225,000 miles on it?

Thank you! :)

I think thats wayyyyyyyyy to much money. My advice is to keep looking, it will pay off in the long run. It's better to pay less and YOU invest more. That way you know the real facts about your jeep.

I bought one in Canada for $5000 the frame and body where in great shape. I changed the motor, the suspension, the tires, the brakes, some electrical stuff, Fans. Now I have a truck that I know for a fact that will last. Total spent to date is $11000 (5000 +6000) thats still pretty good for a truck thats like new!

Good Luck![addsig]

My advise would be to wait a little...and never like a perticular(sp?) car.cause you will overlook flaws in it.

Transfer case???? same as above

Front axle???

Brand new long block motor or new as in used with 90,000 on it????
