Gay Horn?

Is it just me, or does my YJs horn sound a little... lacking authority. Today I was driving my month old 91 and someone cut me off... of course my options were to run him over or just go for the honk. I went for the more "civil" option and much to my suprise the horn sounded a little weak for my new mean machine I just bought. I'm used to hearing the sound of my 67 ford mustang Manly honk, it would be nice to change the horns over, it shouldn't be that difficult. But I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat and did something about it? I will soon I can guarantee.[addsig]

heh, well after driving my honda, my horn sounds very manly to me. i drive a '90 XJ... and it seems pretty low pitch. you should listen to newer grand cherokee's... my buddy's GC sounds very 'gay'... but horns are simple... if you want something else, buy it and bolt it on and connect the wires!

I would have to agree that the YJ horn is lacking in authority. I am going to change mine as soon as I find a good replacement for it. Thinkin maybe a set of nice low pitch airhorns would do the trick...[addsig]

my horn sounded so bad i just unhooked it to keep from the temptation of using it....and also the fact that it had the tendancy to go off randomly and ALL BY ITS SELF....i would be driving around town and all of a sudden the stupid thing would start honkin....

Air horns get peoples attention just fine.

Hook up is very simple, and you can find

them barely used at swap meets for next to nothing.

Do what I did... Just toss on an antique OOOOOOGAAA horn and you will never have a problem letting people know you are there... that and a straight exhaust... Safety, its all about attention, if they know where you are... they won't hit you[addsig]

HAHA its funny that you bring this up. I replaced mine just yesterday. I would feel embarrased every time i honked at a friend or somthing, so i got a new one at pep boys for like 11 bucks. hooked it up in les than 5 minutes, it was incredibly easy. Sounds better. Not MEAN, but nothing like the old one. ill probably do an airhorn later on. [addsig]

Ya needs a one of dem dare air horns! I installed a long trumpet air horn off a Kenworth, (a Grover 1707) on my Dodge. Tell ya what, that baby is freaking noisy! This style of horn does require a supply of air though. If you already have on-board air, hook up will be simple. I don't have a big air horn on my jeep yet, (haven't been back to the truck ard to get one yet, but will) I have some cheapy Kragen auto style dual air horn setup on her currently. It came with a tiny compressor. It kinda work fine.

I get my air horns used, from a local truck dismantler. Check your area for something simular. You can pick them up much cheaper used than new. Rebuild kit's are available for the Grover style horns too!
