Gas tanks

Hi everyone,

I have a question. My 1991 YJ 4 cylinder (Mikey) is in need of a new fuel tank and fuel gauge setup.
Does anyone know where I can find one and is metal better or worse than a polymer make-up?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Just do a google search and you will have a ton of sales sites wanting to ship you one. I went ahead and bought mine last tank at Autozone. I paid a little more but shipping was not a problem and all the other stuff that goes along with buying on line. Go with plastic tank if the price is close. tug

A friend of mine down the road has a 20gal plastic tank from a '95 YJ that will fit yours if you're interested. Probably real reasonable on price. Shipping would be from the St. Louis area. I can probably sell the 4.0L sending unit I've been holding onto if you really need it.

Thanks Bounty

I'll think it over and check with the other half. My tank, now, is the original. I'm getting a fuel aroma every so often,
Thought it might be a good idea to change the tank and any other parts. Including the gauge, which doesn't work properly.
I knew you guys could help!

Fuel odor from a Jeep??

...and all this time, I thought it was just her perfume!

Hey!

Yep It goes completely off with the engine off. It powers up to the full if I have a full. It goes nowhere from there. It will only go down close to half running. It just isn't accurate.

Pull the guage cluster from the center of the dash and clean the contacts for the fuel guage. You may have to replace the sending unit in the tank if this doesn't help. If you do, cut the fill-tube insert while you have the tank down, easy extra 5 gallons of capacity.

Gunner-- hahaha Thats funny! When my wife and I were dating, she didn't even have to look outside.....she just leaned over, took a whiff, and said "you drove the Jeep didn't you?"
