Fuel gauge problem

Filled my tank and a few days later ran out of gas.....Gauge was reading 3/4 of a tank......Tank empty.....Replaced tank sending unit....Still have the same problem......Any insite on this problem ? 1997 TJ 4.0...Automatic........Thanks !

Welcome to Jeepz.com. When you filled the tank, did I take the full 14 or so gallons?

Any dent in your tank?
Not sure it works on. 97 but 00 and later you could hold the trip odometer while turning the key on and off three times without starting. Ending in the on position and the gauges run through a self test.
Other than this check the voltage going to the sending unit.

Test showed all gauges working I get a full reading on fuel gauge during this test

Tank was at 1/4 then I filled it and thought BOY am I getting GREAT mileage ! Yes it took the proper amount from 1/4 to full.....Found out tank was empty put in fuel started right up gauge was still showing 3/4......I only put a gallon or 2 in it......I'm thinking bad ground......even replaced speedo cluster.....same problem
