my plan's for the 8.8 swap have not worked out....can anybody tell me what make and model would have the 9 inch i need for my YJ...thanks all.

basically any 9" would work... I think that mostly any 9" would need some sort of modification

No some will be smaller...but any 9 inch is going to have to be re-sized for any jeep. When your looking for one in the bone yard take a tape measure along to measure between the housing and the end flange. a few minutes below your own jeep will give you the needed dimentions that are the min you require

that wont be a problem cause i already blew that crappy dana 35 up and have taken it out of the jeep already. :) i also have offset rims on the front axle ( so i can make full turns) and was thinking that the difference between the front axle + offset rims wouldnt be much different than a 9 inch out of a half ton pick-up or something.....anything else i need to know about this swap....yoke or flage to drive shaft...do they use the same size u-joint?

explorers work fine and you get the disc brakes. Personaly I prefer model 20 from a wagoneer. It has a larger ring and pinion and is 1/2" longer than a wrangler. You can redrill for 5 lug if you want to.

I thought that explorers only had 8.8 rears untill 2001 when they were 9 inch centers but in an IRS configuration?

I know snitty, I know, I was just making a point that the explorers never had a 9 inch rear. You need to get one out of a vintage bronce (77 or older) while your at it also grab the front end!

that is right... the broncos were narrow enough and their axles make great replacements

would the axles out of a newer ( full size bronco) work? i am assuming it would also have the 9 in the rear and 44 up front.

they should work... but will still need modifying to fit... and might be quite wide, which is not always bad

what kind of mofication will i need to do other than moving the spring/shock mounts? just want to know what i am getting into before hand..thanks

well... for mounting the axle... that is basically all you will need.... then make sure you have the right gears in each axle... some people won't run a wide axle on a jeep.. I prefer the stance myself... looks good, helps you stay on all 4's... just doen'st allow you to get through the spaces... so some people shorten them... depending on brakes... you MAY have to convert some lines, chances are that you'll be ok though... Parking brake may need some tinkering, if you will be running them at all... there's not much to an axle... just basically make it look like the 35

Spare relocation?

the rear would work, but the front will not. all bronco's and f150's after like 82 did not have a solid front axle, they used this real inferior twin I beam suspension. I am not overly familiar with the system other than most people choose to swap in a SFA just like in Chevy's with IFS!

oh yeah i forgot about that Ibeam suspension... i've worked on a few rangers with it.... IT SUCKS
