Fog lights

I'm looking at installing some fog lights, but haven't ever done anything like that for real before. Has anyone seen or have some kind of diagram for how to wire a set into the fuse box? I don't really want to do a real hack job. Better to just do it right the first time. I've used the "splice into a hot wire" method, but I want to make it good. So what's the word all?

what kind of lights? What is the watts?

If you are adding anything decent size you need to use a standard relay.

A relay lets the lights work at full potential while keeping your fusebox happy.

Let us know more about what you have and we'll post help and maybe a diagram or two.;) ;)

I haven't really decided what I am going to put on yet. How far can you take it before you need a higher output alternator?

Try lookin on the KC website for a wiring diagram for their Off-Road lights. If I remember right they had a great picture of one when I bought mine. Very simple and easy to do.

If you haven't bought the lights yet, look into KC, IPF, PIAA they all provide a snap togather type or full wire kit that is very easy to install and comes with everything you need and instructions

So what are you saying? You've "pretended" to install fog lights before?? ;)

Serious reply: Unless I'm mistaken, most aftermarket fog lights come with their own relay/fuse, and as mentioned before, you would have to run a SERIOUS setup before you'd need to upgrade the alternator.

Yeah. I didn't really "pretend", but I can't say that the lights that I put on my old Ford Ranger were installed "Standard"... There was a lot of wires hanging around, and it was somehow connected into my cigarette lighter. They worked I guess, but every time that you used the lighter, it shorted out somewhere. It all worked out in the end though since my wife drove an old Suburban through them. Evidently she didn't like how they looked.

Get a kit, not just the lights. It will come with wire, a relay, a switch, instructions...

You can either get fluted lenses so they cast a flood light like beam or you can get the spotlight type. Many of the aftermarket lights are available either/or. I put a set of the fluted 5" pro comp lights on my YJ and they cast a nice wide beam for small lights.
