Filling up an AX5 with fluids...

Ok, so I got my girl's clutch and everything installed, and its all together, I just need to fill the transmission with fluid. Which fill hole do I use? The torx t-55 on the passenger side of the transmission, or the regular 23mm (or whatever size it is) bolt? Or what about the torx bolt on the driver side that says DO NOT REMOVE. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lane

Use the regular large bolt half way up the side, looks the same as the drain bolt.

Be sure to not use GL5, it's high sulfer content is corrosive to the soft brass synchronizers in the AX5 and AX15 transmissions.

Two choices on transmission gear oil, one good and the other best.

Good: Penzoil Synchromesh (or similiar Synchromesh like GM). Available at most auto parts stores.

Best: Redline MT90, it's fully synthetic and specially formulated to be easy on the soft brass synchronizers. It's generally mail order only and more expensive than the Synchromesh. It's worth it to many as the transmission will shift like warm butter even in freezing weather, and can smooth the shifts on a transmission that is on it's way out, possibly extending it's lift by quite a bit.

I use the Redline, but the AX5 I put in was high mileage and I'm tired of changing trannies.

Oops, sorry I miss-read your post. I thought you were talking about a rear alxe! I guess thats what happens when you stare at a computer screen all day. Sorry dude... as for transmission fluid, what Bounty said.

either of what bounty mentioned will dramatically improve your shifting... you'll notice it in cold weather especially... and... you won't be crying the brass synchro blues a few miles down the road

ok, well it will be either the synchromesh if i can find it locally or i will just mail order the mt90. thanks for the replies gentlemen.

Got it done and its running great, made a huge difference. Decided to put some synchromesh in my ax-15, and i can not explain the difference it made! Night and day, i am sure redline is amazing. My transmission was so notchy, then I swamped in the synchromesh and I love driving it again. Thanks for the help guys.
