I just finished installing an Extreme Air Compressor on the Mighty YJ...

The manufacturer picture (they don't paint 'em red anymore)-

Now installed under my hood -

It was a fairly easy install (I never thought, prior to owning a Jeep, that I would say anything like that). The problems were finding the right size serpentine belt to use with (the third was the charm), and I will have to reroute the upper radiator hose (Notice the nylon tie).

I used to have a QuickAir 2, but it was getting weaker and weaker. I was taking along an additional air compressor just to fill all the tires eventually.

Now? Vavavavoom! About 45 seconds per tire! What a change from using a stopwatch and waiting for 3 to 3 1/2 minutes per tire!

Now I can do evertbody's tires on a trail run!

Cost? Excessive... About $450 all said and done...

Does it push that much more air than a 10 ci York?

I didn't want to go the York route as 1 - Most of the Yorks I've read about are recycle material, 2 - They have age, 3 - Most adaptor kits still run the cost up. So, I wanted a new compressor.

There is an oiling port on the top of the compressor. It is a monthly task. You can see it in the middle picture.

It fills my 33" tires in about 40 seconds each. I generally air down to 10 lbs and air back up to 29 lbs.

I already had a break down this afternoon. Trial runs can be so trying. In the middle picture at the back you can see the wrapped metal jacket tubing that heads down to the air tank. The fitting on the back gets hot. That plastic tube released a lot of air suddenly when it blew. I replaced it with 3/8" copper tubing with compression fittings at each end. I even curled the copper to increase the cooling factor. It is much cooler now by the time it gets to the air tank even with the hood down. I want to be able to keep the hood down so people don't stop to ask you if you need help.

So far, its holding and keeping cool (and it looks pretty boss).

I've heard of the OEM Sanden compressors running hot when used as OBA, wonder if it's something to do with the two being a similar style compressor.

It appears that this compressor may even be a Sanden, or of similar design

Hey Snitty, you're right! It is a Sandem. With the copper coil modification, it is working great!

I should post a picture of the easy mod...

Sorry for the delay on this one...

This is a picture of the copper tubing I used on the back of the new compressor. Notice that it is the very same size as a bulk CD holder.

It works and is a great addition.

I finally got the ARB air locker and the Dana 30 30 spline chrome molly axles in the front.

That was a fun project also.

It shows a picture of our 1-ton drag link.

These are the new axles...

Here is the ARB kit...

Finally field tested it yesterday. Worked great.

Let's go back-country!!!

You'll love having the option of locking or unlocking the front, plus it helps the d30 live alot longer(those sweet axles will help for sure) I replaced my blue plastic hose with stainless steel, never had a problem with that but the plastic line cracked a few times.

Thanks for the heads up.

Others have told me the same thing...

I'll get that done soon but not this weekend.

You know it is a problem when a veritable cottage industry springs up around blue hose repair...

Seems like the alternator has decided not to take a load today. So it is off to the parts shop for a load test...
