evaporation control valve

THis is mainly towards 90Growler, In your post about the evaporation control valve, the 2 gas lines that came off the tank then met up to connect to the metal pipe. That metal pipe was it all wiggly and looselike it was barly bieng held in there? How does it disconnect? IS it supposed to be firm? My 88yj is doing the exact same thing. Does the metal pipe connect to something else? How did u get your hand all the way up there did u remove the tank or bumper or something? Any help would be appriecieated. Thnx

Sorry it took me so long to respond. You need to remove the rubber part of the rear passenger wheelwell to access the ECV. Mine was completely broken, thus causing the gas spills and gas fumes. It is a good idea to remove the whole assembly and the 2 vapor lines that attach to the gas tank. There are 3 vapor lines. The two that lead from the fuel tank will combine to one line that attaches to the bottome of the ECV. And the third line will run to the evaporation canister. When you remove the ECV, take it to a Jeep dealer and have them order the part. (nobody knew what I was talking about until I brought the old one in). Remount the new ECV behind the wheelwell and reconnect all your lines. I would go ahead and trace your evaporation line to the canister to check for leaks or just replace it. Very easy fix, took like 30-45 min. You don't have to reuse the metal pipe or mount it in the same exact place.
