engine swap will it bolt up...please help

Ok guys heres the deal came across another 79 CJ with very little body rust and and excellent frame for being 25 years interior is dam nice too...well the old guy that has it told me 500 bucks and i could take it...but heres the deal it needs an engine bearing noise and is losing oil pressure transfer case is good 4x4 works great it is a 258 ci with the t-18 it the 4 speed with the granny first gear.

Anyway found a motor in a 1980 cherokee (the old school full size ones) i thought they only came with 360's that is smashed the junk yard wants 300 for the motor witch starts and runs i mean purrs like a kitten ...the junk yard looking everything up in the computer and he says it will bolt up in my CJ with no problem...i did notice the valve cover on the cherokee is differnt looking and it it an automatic can anybody tell me for sure if it will work

i dont know hot easy of a swap that would be, but that is a great deal on the CJ[addsig]

it will bolt up to your transmission. it being an auto though , you need to get a standard flywheel and dont forget to put a new pilot bearing in. amc 258/304/360/401/4.2/4.0/ all share the same engine block bolt patterns. hope this helps[addsig]

Will it be possible to use the flywheel off of the 258ci that i am pulling out of the Jeep

Also do you know if timming, plug gap, plugs will all be the same....I would assume so, but you know what they say about assuming[addsig]

hey FARRIGHT just for the hell of it i looked in a qudratrac mag i have for the piolet bearing you mentioned that should be replaced PN#52008.04 Qudratrac's description says fits 1976-76 CJ with 258 engine with 11" clutch. What other clutch may have come in a 79 CJ???? That is the only poilet bearing they have shown for that application so I am assuming that all 76-79 258 CJ came with an 11 inch clutch...........RIGHT OR WRONG????????????
