hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any info on a 1985 chevy 305-lg4 motor 700-r4 auto trans combo ? would this be a good combo for my cj7 rebuild. Also looking to find out if they make a adapter for my current transfer case to mount up to this trans? A little new to all of this so any help would be great. thanks again for taking a look.

I think it would work fine but id rather put money in a 350 than a 305 eather way you look at it it's going to cost you around $1500 to $2000 to rebuild eather motor as for the trany rebuild it and put 5 pinion planetarys and a beast sunshell it will do very well.. and you can find Adapters at www.novak.com hope this helps...

Why not just drop an AMC 360 in there, they are plentiful and cheap. No adaptors required, just move the passenger side motor mount a little bit and you are done. Also I personally think a CJ with a Chevy/Ford transplant is not worth as much and is harder to sell than one with AMC motor. Keep your Jeep, Jeep.

Hey guys thanks for your replys. This gives me something
to think about. If I did go w/ the amc 360, what transmission do I
need to run on it. I still have some time, for now I'll just fin.
Building my crane so I can be ready to pull that v4.

Considering the LG4 never made more than 170 hp ever.. range was 135-170 depending on induction.. unless you have a 4cy CJ, your loosing power.

The 305 is a reliable motor, problem is the heads don't flow at all, little aftermarket support, believe it or not, they share very few parts with other similar displacement motor.

The money invested in the swap, would better invested in fuel injecting your CJ's 4.2

and yes, a D300 or D20 can easily be adapted to a 700r4.

So your saying I should fuel inject my
inline-4cycl. rather than pop in v8. Would that
be enough power to turn 35" rubber?
