I need to know if it is possible to swap in V-8 using my current differentials and if I have to change any of the suspension parts. I allready have a 4" lift and 33"x12.5"x15" tires. If anyone sells packages, or possibly a book or some type of reference material any info on these would be appreciated.

Welcome to Jeepz. Get ready to learn form the best bunch of jeepers in the world. I am not the one to ask about how to change things but I love my 4 banger. I may not be the fastest or the most powerful but I get there and I get back to some pretty incredable places. Good luck in your change to a big v-8 Later Tug

Again, welcome to Jeepz. I also have the little 4 banger, its no speed demon, but it does get through some pretty amazing stuff. Quik8slvr is the one to talk to about a V8 swap- but from what I have heard the diffs will more than likely need to be changed. The ones that came with the Jeep weren't designed to handle the high torque/horse that a V8 has.

A cheap alternative to buying new axles is go to your local lunkyard and try and get some old cherokee or explorer axles. It will be some work, but a lot cheaper than buying new!![addsig]

Von,

Its very possible to swap a V8 into your jeep, however its not exactly practical unless you have a good deal of money that you're ready to part with. Although the v8's are much more powerfull it is not neccesary to swap your rear end, atleast right away, the dana 35 IS NOT strong enough but if you're careful with it it will work for you, im still running my 35 been like 3 months now. goto www.advancedadapters.com and request a catalog, also if you goto http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/yj_87_95_swap.htm they are also very knowledgeable about this conversion. any other questions just let me know and i'll try to help the best i can.

just boost the power of your 4 banger, if you have 91 or newer its simple get you a cool air intake, tb spacer header exhaust up grade your ingition between all of that i got my 91 with a 157,000 miles back up to stock we g tech pro it before up grades and it made a huge 97 hp after the the upgrades i am back up to 128 and i dont have that much in my up grades, make the intake this page has come up with some great designs, get a spacer 80.00 bucks get a header 110.00 pace setter, make your exhaust by like a cherry bomb 20.00 go to the auto parts store the ones at my house had all the pipe pre bent and in stock so i spent around 40.00 on all new pipe get a free flow cat 95.00 by thrush, and put it on we did all of this to mine in a weekend, for the ignition all i did was by an accel super coil for around 60.00 and the 8.8 mm spark plug wires by accel also for around 70.00. 30 hp is a lot but i doesnt sound like much but its alot, what you realy want would mostly be touqe since you are rolling rather large tires compared to stock i regeared mine bought the kit put it in for around 300.00 and now i can chirp second, also they make a fly wheel ring that is called an inerta ring that doenst give you any more hp but it keeps the engine speed up which allows for a much broader power band plus if you going to a v8 your just going to make you ax5 transmission a paper weight in about a month if your real easy but why put a v8 in it if your going to be easy? good luck

Marc, great ideas. I just saved all that and have now made a checklist of things I'm going to do![addsig]

have you thought about putting in a 258 inline AMC 6? it would prolly be a much cheaper eng swap in the long run...not entirly sure but...i dont think you would need to change your rear end, rador transmission..anyway just a thought.[addsig]

Or if I were you, look up avengersuperchargers.com

Brings the puny 97 horses to 200hp and 200lb/ft too.

I'm just wondering if the stock drivetrain can handle that amount of power.[addsig]

why spend $4,000 on a supercharger when the whole 350 conversion will cost you about 5....face it the 4 bangers jeep makes, although they'll get you through some stuff basically suck, what made up my mind was when i'd be driving up a mountain and could barely do 45mph, and the gas mileage i was getting was WORSE then with my 350, i used to get 12-15 mpg now i get about 17 mpg!! plus chevy engine components are much less expensive and longer lasting, jeeps are great but their engines blow
