hey guys.

Ever since I put in that taurus fan set up, my jeep doesnt feel as reliable. I wont go further than 20 miles from home. Im afraid to go wheeling 'cause it just might die on me. Sux.
I dont even know if its the fan, its just the only major modification ive done under the hood recently.

Today I was going to school, got caught at a train, waiting, waiting, then I go on an begin searching for a parking spot. As Im waiting for the girl to pull out the motor starts chattering, chugging, and dies. Wont restart. I see a little smoke coming in from the engine bay to inside the jeep, smell like exhaust. (Was worried it was electrical, but it ws just exhaust) But why? The exhaust is sealed tight all the way to the back - I know it is. I oopen the hood, everything looks great. I feel the upper radiator hose, its tight, but not bubbling. So I dont think it was overheating..but what do I know? I wait 10 minutes it starts fine, and I park it..?? Alls I know is Im driving for a while, the taurus fan is on low - constantly - I never turn it off, I sit for 5 mins while a train goes by, then 2 minutes later Im going to park and the thing dies. I wait 10 minutes, it starts, and I park it!! What gives?

As Im typing this, I remembered I have the EGR removed and plugged with an aluminum plate held on with the 2 bolts that originally held on th EGR. The plate is also sealed with high temp RTV.

Could it be a simple vaccum leak that is slowly getting worse?

Whats going on?

Will this work?

I don't think RTV and an aluminum plate are strong enough to hold on the EGR. The temp is extremely hot for any RTV and the aluminum will expand.
Normally, when my buddies or I block off an EGR we weld up the holes. Something to consider.

I have a temp guage! LOL

Its just not working very well, the sending unit is crap, funny youd think Id just pick one up since I manage an auto parts store...

Anyway,
i figred out the prob. Shortly after writing that post I was on my way home, jeep dies. dead...

So i bought a $2 circuit tester and figred out that the ignition box was dead. KEM = crap. Why did it die, since its only a month old...?
I notice I have a little bit of power at the neg. lead on the coil. Guess I got a short somewhere.
So I bought the ignition box, strapped it on for lack of tools and drove home.
ill save the short for another day. sure would be nice to go wheelin, heck I cant even go far ON ROAD!! The obsticle is my own jeep, and my shortcomings... Not brave enough to go 50 miles back in the woods, not sure if It will come out alive!

Good to hear you figured it out, but you should also definatly get that temp guage fixed soon!! Then you don't have to worry.
