Engine coughing?

:? This one isn't a problem, more of a curiosity... Every now and again, I will start the engine, and inadvertantly let go of the key too soon; about 1/8th of a second before it would have turned over. When this happens, the engine seems to, well, cough would be the best way to describe it... If you could picture letting all the air out of a balloon in a coffee can, maybe sounds something like that. The location is what I wonder about; it sounds like it is to my lower left when I am in the drivers seat... After it does that, I just have to crank it a bit, and it starts and runs problem free, so does anyone have any idea what that sound might be based on it's location?

Not that I have noticed, although that would explain the puttering noise when it is idling... I'll have to take a closer look at it when next I'm tinkering with it...

Mine does the same thing, usually/sometimes after I shut the motor off, from the same area. Got bad knees, hasn´t bothered me sufficiantly to investigate. I probably will, the next time I have the dash apart.
Could be a slight leak, in the vacume booster, though it sounds like it´s coming from the left of that location. Only vacume problems I have, are the defrost heat, seems a little weak and my cruise control isn´t working.
If you figure it out let me know.
