Hi i was replacing the spark plugs one by one. and a little piece of oil gunt fell into the 2nd cylinder when i was pulling the plug. I was wondering if its safe to pull the head of my cj7 4 cylinder engines head so i can clean the oil dirt out so there will not be piston damage in the near future. Is it safe without doing and special things. Thanks

Not sure if it will hurt anything or not, I have had that happen before. It was a small peice and I didn't worry about it and just put the new plug back in and never had any problems. During a compression leak down test you put oil in there anyway, so I didnt worry about it. Do you think the peice had metal in it?, I would think it would just get burned out of there. Im not positive though so may want to wait untill someone else replies.

Its like a oily dirt substance. And if a peice metal melts and the engine stops for the night or so. Wont it fuse the cylinder to the block?

Use a shop vac. Attach a small clear tube on the end of the vacuum nozzle that's small enough to fit in the spark plug hole then watch the clear tube as you vacuum inside the cylinder to see if you were able to get the debris out.

duh! a vacuum, the simplist solutions are often over looked..lol. If you think metal was in the gunk I would not run it until you vacuumed it out. When I did it to mine, I knew there was no metal in it.
