I have a 318. Throttle body injected motor to go n2 my 86 AMC CJ7 what drive train would b best for on and off road? Transmission, front and rear axles, transfer case, ect........!

Need a bit more info like tire size and terrain you plan on running.

That is like the ford versus chevy question, everyone has their opinion and favorite. You could spend a fortune on axles to get the BEST. The dana 30/20 axles were used behind all the AMC v8,s. I have run all of my jeeps with v8s on those axles and 33,s and not had any problem except replacing front ujoints from time to time after doing some tougher trails. wagoneer dana 44,s would be better. As for the trany, are you wanting a auto or stick? The t18, t150, t176 jeep manual tranies will hold up to the v8, but you will probably need a adapter for the engine no matter what so you could really put any trany in there you wanted. You should have the dana 300 tcase and only the t176 of the three I listed will bolt directly to the 300 with out an adapter. the t150 would be the weaker of the three. I am running a muncie car 4spd so your options and endless with adapters.

Well I bought the jeep for $500 and am doin a ground up restore just want to do it right with as little probs. the future its my first jeep and my father and I r working on it together so it a learning process for both of us! I have always wanted an older jeep and I couldn't pass. The opportunity!

I mentioned the dana 20 rear and dana 30 front because thats what came on jeeps. SOME of the 86 models came with a dana 44 rear axle and all models from around 72 and up came with the dana 30 front axle. I would identify the rear axle you have now and if its a 44, keep it, if its a dana20 rear it will have a smooth round cover like a helmet. I would keep the 30 as well for now until you run into problems with it. It should be ok with 33,s unless you are going to do some extreme wheeling. you can put a waganeer 44 in the front but it requires mounting the springs on the outside of the frame instead of under the frame.

Mine is stock with a v6 it has a smooth cover n the back and idk how to tell on the front?!
